You are here About John

Daly was born in Carmichael, California. His family moved from California to Dardanelle, Arkansas and his golfing career started. He started playing at the age of 4 and by the time he was in high school he was a letterman in football, golf and played baseball. Daly eventually gave up baseball and football to further his career in golf.

Daly attended the University of Arkansas, where he was a member of the golf team. Daly then turned professional in 1987, and won the Ben Hogan Utah Classic in 1990. He enjoys writing lyrics and playing guitar...Recorded a largely autobiographical album entitled "My Life," featuring guest performances by Darius Rucker, Willie Nelson, Johnny Lee and Daron Norwood. Instead of flying to tournament sites, John purchased a large RV and drives to many events.

He is involved in many charitable causes, most notably Make-a-Wish Foundation and Boys & Girls Clubs of America. He donated $25,000 to Nationwide Tour's State Farm Open in 2002, increasing the purse from $425,000 to $450,000. He also continues to be an active supporter with various sports programs at the University of Arkansas.

His long list of achievements include being named the 1990 PGA TOUR Rookie of the Year, becoming the youngest active player on PGA TOUR with two major championship titles, and becoming the fourth American since World War II to win two majors before his 30th birthday, joining Jack Nicklaus, Tom Watson and Johnny Miller.
